Jeff Sessions is an American politician and attorney. A Republican, he has been U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, from February 1981 to March 23, 1993, Attorney General of Alabama, from January 16, 1995 to January 3, 1997, a U.S. Senator from Alabama, from January 3, 1997 to February 8, 2017, and the U.S. Attorney General, from February 9, 2017 to November 7, 2018.

Jeff is the son of Abigail “Abbie” (Powe) and Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, Jr. His grandfather was named Jefferson after Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Beauregard after Confederate general P. G. T. Beauregard. Jeff is married to Mary Blackshear, with whom he has three children.

Jeff’s paternal grandfather was Jefferson Beauregard Sessions (the son of Jonathan James Sessions and Elizabeth Jones). Jeff’s grandfather Jefferson was born in Alabama. Jonathan was the son of John B. Sessions and Sarah Helms.
