Jamie Raskin is an American author and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he has been a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Maryland, since January 3, 2017.
Jamie is the son of Barbara Raskin, a journalist, and author of the novel Hot Flashes, and Marcus Raskin, a social critic, political activist, author, and philosopher. He is married to attorney and regulator Sarah Bloom Raskin, with whom he has three children. Sarah was a Member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, from October 4, 2010 to March 13, 2014, and U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, from March 19, 2014 to January 20, 2017.
Jamie’s great-uncle, Max Raskin, was a lawyer and judge, who was Milwaukee City Attorney, from 1932 to 1936, and a Wisconsin Circuit Court Judge in Milwaukee County, from 1963 to 1973.
Jamie’s paternal grandfather was Benjamin Samuel Raskin (the son of Shulum/Samuel Raskin and Dora Halbeihy/Daskin/Halbeichy/Richman). Benjamin was born in Belarus or Latvia, Russian Empire. Samuel was the son of Yitzchak/Yitzhak Yakov/Yaacov Isaac Jacob Raskin and Freida Fannie Raskin, who were from Minsk. Dora was the daughter of Mordechai Reuben.
