Hồ Chí Minh was a Vietnamese Communist revolutionary leader and politician. He was a key figure in the People’s Army of Vietnam and the Việt Cộng, which led revolts against Japanese rule in 1945 and French rule in 1954, resulting in the division of Vietnam into North and South. He led what became the North. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 28 August, 1945 to 2 March, 1946, and again, from 3 November, 1946 to March, 1947; Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, from 2 September, 1945 to 20 September, 1955, President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, from 2 September, 1945 to 2 September, 1969, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Vietnam, from 1 November, 1955 to 10 September, 1960, and Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Vietnam, from 19 February, 1951 to 2 September, 1969. He was also known as Uncle Ho (Bác Hồ), President Ho, Bác, President Hồ Chí Minh, Nguyễn Tất Thành, Nguyễn Ái Quốc, Văn Ba, Người cha già của dân tộc/”Father of the people,” and “Founding father of modern Vietnam.”
Hồ Chí Minh was the son of Hoàng Thị Loan and Nguyễn Sinh Sắc, a scholar, teacher, and government official. His brother was Nguyễn Sinh Khiêm. He was married to Chinese midwife Zeng Xueming, until his death.

Hồ Chí Minh’s maternal grandfather was named Hoàng Xuân Đường (the son of Hoàng Xuân Cận). Hồ Chí Minh’s grandfather Hoàng was a well-educated native of Hoang Tru, Nam Dan. He also adopted Hồ Chí Minh’s father.
