Eva Cassidy was an American vocalist and guitarist.
Her father, Hugh Cassidy, is a metal sculptor, jazz musician, and powerlifter. Her mother, Barbara (Kratzer), is a German emigrant, from Bad Kreuznach. Eva was a first cousin, once removed, of actor and singer Henry Gibson, through her father.
Eva’s paternal grandfather was Lewis Cochran Cassidy (the son of Hugh Gilbert Cassidy and Mary Dorothea Fagan). Lewis was born in Pennsylvania. Hugh was the son of Lewis Cochran/Cochrane Cassidy, a lawyer and politician, who served as Attorney General of Pennsylvania, from January 17, 1883 to January 18, 1887, and who was of Irish descent; and of Sarah T. “Sallie” Truman. Eva’s great-grandmother Mary was the daughter of Louis Estell Fagan and Mary Dorothea Colahan.
Eva’s paternal grandmother was Clara Louise McGrew (the daughter of Frank Lawson McGrew and Eva Avonia Johnston). Clara was born in Nebraska. Frank was the son of James Carr McGrew and Mary Jane Read. Eva was the daughter of James Calvin Johnston and Mary Isabella Kindle.
