Isn’t Myers usually a German name?
Not particularly. It almost always originates from England (mire/myrr) and Ireland (O’Meidhir). Extremely few Germans are named Myer/Myers compared to Mayer/Meyer/Maier/Meier and such.
With the obvious caveat that this doesn’t mean it’s not an Americanization in this instance though.
It’s either English, German (anglicized from Mayer), or Jewish.
