Dylan is the son of Lisa (Rhodes), an actress who ran an acting school, and Patrick Broderick O’Brien, a camera operator. He was born in New York, and initially raised in Springfield Township, New Jersey, then moving to Hermosa Beach, California when he was twelve. Dylan’s father is of Irish descent. Dylan’s maternal grandfather was of half English and half Spanish ancestry, and Dylan’s maternal grandmother’s ancestry is Italian.

Dylan’s paternal grandfather was Dennis Richard O’Brien (the son of Michael Joseph O’Brien and Ellen E. Lacken). Dennis was born in New York. Michael was the son of Irish parents, John Martin O’Brien and Elizabeth Pilkington, from Kerry. Dylan’s great-grandmother Ellen was also the daughter of Irish parents, from Mayo, Martin Lacken and Ellen Moran.

Dylan’s paternal grandmother was Julia Marie Broderick (the daughter of Patrick “Pat” Broderick and Margaret Daly). Julia was born in New York, to Irish parents. Patrick was born in Tipperary, the son of Thomas Francis Broderick and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Hickey. Margaret was born in Cork, the daughter of Timothy Daly and Julia.

Dylan’s maternal grandfather was Cecil Alvarez Rhodes, Jr. (the son of Cecil Rhodes and Maria Nieves Menendez Alvarez). Dylan’s grandfather Cecil was born in New York City. Dylan’s great-grandfather Cecil was born in New York, to English parents, Thomas Rhodes and Annie Holt, who were from Lancashire. Dylan’s maternal grandmother likely is Betty Ann Secino (the daughter of Thomas Anthony Secino and Emma Pezzolesi). Betty was born in Massachusetts, to Italian parents. Thomas was from Ruvo del Monte, Basilicata, and was the son of Giuseppe Secino and Rosa Maria Guerra. Emma was the daughter of Nazzarene Pezzolesi.

I’m almost certain that she is Dylan’s maternal grandmother:

Betty Ann Secino (the daughter of Thomas Anthony Secino and Emma Pezzolesi). Betty was born in Massachusetts to Italian emigrants. Thomas was from Ruvo del Monte, Basilicata, and was the son of Giuseppe Secino and Rosa Maria Guerra.

If this is the case Dylan’s ethnicity would be:

    *50% Irish
    *25% Italian
    *12.5% English
    *12.5% Spanish

Dylan O’Brien’s paternal grandfather: Dennis Richard O’Brien (1936-1985) New York City, the son of Michael Joseph O’Brien (1905-1976) and Ellen E. Lacken (1903-1957). Michael was the son of John Martin O’Brien (1876) Ireland and Elizabeth Pilkington (1877) Kerry, Ireland. Ellen was the daughter of Martin Lacken (1862) Mayo, Ireland and Ellen Moran (1866) Mayo, Ireland.
Paternal grandmother: Julia Marie Broderick (1937-2020), New York, City, the daughter of Patrick Broderick (1902) Tipperary, Ireland, and Margaret Daly, (1899), Cork, Ireland. Patrick was the son of Thomas Francis Broderick (Clare, Ireland) and Elizabeth Hickey (Galway, Ireland). Margaret was the daughter of Denis Daly and Ellen Donegan, who were both from Cork, Ireland.
As for Dylan’s maternal grandmother: she was almost certainly only half Italian, with the other half being English descent. 2nd great-grandparents Horace William Pevear and Claudine D. Chase have a long lineage of ancestors in America leading back to England.
