Charles Trenet was a French singer and songwriter. His songs included “Boum!,” “Y’a d’la joie,” “La Romance de Paris,” “La Mer,” “Nationale 7,” and “Douce France.”

Charles’ father, Lucien Étienne Paul Trenet, was a notary and amateur violinist. Charles’ mother, Marie Louise Constance (Caussat) Weinfeld, left Lucien in 1917 for a wounded soldier named Benno Vigny (Benoit Philippe Weinfeld), who later became a screenwriter and director.

Charles’ patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his sixth great-grandfather, Noël Trenet.

Charles’ paternal grandfather was Claudius Trenet (the son of Étienne Trenet and Jeanne Marie Liant). Claudius was born in Lyon, Rhône, Rhône-Alpes. Étienne was the son of Charles Trenet and Jeanne Adrienne Rivoire. Jeanne was the daughter of Joseph Liant and Thérèse Gandy.

Raymond was the son of Barthélémy Raymond Caussat and Véronique Marcouire. Louise was the daughter of Pierre Villebrun and Marie Marguerite Robert.

Charles’ maternal grandmother was Marie Anne Gras (the daughter of Abel Antoine Gras and Émilie Marie Modeste Chauvain). Marie Anne was born in Béziers, Hérault, Languedoc-Roussillon. Abel was the son of Pierre Joachim Frédéric Gras and Catherine Sicard. Émilie was the daughter of Jean Baptiste Chauvain and Claire Catherine Cazals.

Charles’ matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his fourth great-grandmother, Marie Lavaille.
