Carl Yastrzemski is an American professional baseball player. Mostly a left fielder and third baseman, as well as a first baseman and designated hitter, he played for twenty three seasons with the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is nicknamed “Yaz.”
Carl is the son of Hedwig Teresa “Hattie” (Skonieczny) and Carl/Karol Vincent Yastrzemski. His father was born in New York, to Polish parents. His mother was born in New Jersey, also to Polish parents. He was raised bilingual, speaking Polish.
Carl has had three children, including late professional baseball player Mike Yastrzemski, with his former wife Carol Ann. His grandson, Mike’s son, Mike Yastrzemski, is also a professional baseball player.
Carl’s paternal grandfather was Chester Jastrzebski/Yastrzemski (the son of Michał Jastrzębski and Teofila Suchcicka).
Carl’s paternal grandmother was named Josephine Mierzejewska/Mierzenaska.
