Bruno Mars is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, dancer, actor, and choreographer. Considered a music icon, he is known for his retro showmanship, and performs in genres including pop, R&B, reggae, disco, funk, rock, and soul. His songs include “Just the Way You Are,” “Grenade,” “The Lazy Song,” “It Will Rain,” “Locked Out of Heaven,” “When I Was Your Man,” “Treasure,” “Gorilla,” “Young Girls,” “24K Magic,” “That’s What I Like,” the remix “Finesse,” “Wake Up in the Sky,” “Please Me,” “Skate,” “Smokin out the Window,” “Die with a Smile,” and, in a featured role, “Nothin’ on You,” “Billionaire,” “Lighters,” “Young, Wild & Free,” and “Uptown Funk.” He performs with his band the Hooligans, whose members are also his backup singers and disco dancers, and is also one half of R&B super-duo Silk Sonic, with Anderson .Paak; the two are known for their song “Leave the Door Open.” He also co-founded production team the Smeezingtons. His concert tours are some of the highest-grossing in history.

Bruno is the son of Bernadette del Pedro Bayot and Peter S. Hernandez, who were musically-inclined, his father performing rock and roll and his mother a singer and dancer. He was raised in Honolulu’s Waikiki neighborhood. Growing up, he was exposed to rock, reggae, hip hop, and R&B. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in 2003, for his music career.

His father is from Brooklyn, New York. Bruno’s paternal grandfather was Puerto Rican and Bruno’s paternal grandmother was Ashkenazi Jewish, of Hungarian Jewish and Ukrainian Jewish descent. Bruno’s mother was from Manila, Phillippines, and was of Filipino [including Cebuano and Tagalog], and some Spanish [Castilian], ancestry. Through his Puerto Rican line, he has at least 1/256th Italian ancestry.

He was nicknamed Bruno due to his resemblance to professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino.

Bruno is a second cousin, once removed, of Filipino actor Eddie Gutierrez, and the third cousin of Eddie’s children, actors Tonton Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez, and Raymond Gutierrez, and model Ruffa Gutierrez. Bruno’s maternal great-great-grandparents, Mariano Herranz Heras and Mamerta Cañizares Secuya, were also Eddie’s maternal great-grandparents.

Bruno’s paternal grandfather was Peter Hernandez (the son of Almecio Hernández Aquino and Fabiana Sebastiana Vázquez Garcia). Bruno’s grandfather Peter was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. Almecio was born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, the son of Manuel Hernández Muñoz and Mercedes Aquino Hernández. Fabiana was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, the biological daughter of José Vázquez Romero and María del Rosario García Betancourt, and was adopted by Bernardo Peña Martinez and Rafaela Perosa Gerardez.

Bruno’s paternal grandmother was Mildred Dubov (the daughter of William Wolf Dubovis/Dubov and Bella Berger). William was a Jewish emigrant, from Kiev, and was the son of Sholom Yoseph DuBovis and Malka Weissman. Bella was born in New York City, to Hungarian Jewish parents, Joseph Berger and Louise Wohlberg.

Bruno’s maternal grandfather was Romeo Amando Maria “Eugene” Herranz Bayot (the son of Jesús María Bayot Fuentes and Consolación “Consuelo” Herranz Cañizares). Romeo was born in Manila, Philippines. Jesús was also born in Manila, the son of Gabriel Bayot and Josefa Fuentes. Consolación was born in Segovia, Spain. Consolación’s father, Mariano Herranz Heras, was Spanish, from Nava de la Asunción, Segovia. Consolación’s mother, Mamerta Cañizares Secuya, or Mamerta Secuya Cañizares in Filipino, was born in Talisay, Cebu, Phillippines, the daughter of Alejo Cañizares Canindot, or Alejo Canindot Cañizares in Filipino, also of Talisay; and of Sabina Secuya Larombe, or Sabina Larombe Secuya in Filipino, of Minglanilla, Cebu. The surname Secuya is also spelled as Sycuya, which is of possibly Chinese origin, but it is not clear if Sabina had Chinese ancestry.

Bruno’s maternal grandmother was named Soledad San Pedro. Soledad was born in Baguio City, Benguet, Philippines.

Oh yeah Australia you guys stole their land too and forced them out of their home you had sex with their Women and keep the children from their family, stole thier generation and tried your best to whip out thier culture. Well guess what WHite man, even tho you beat us and stole our culture we are still stronger then you will ever be. We over come pain and slavery what have you people overcome? What is it with the people on this site that love to make everyone Black or African??! …It seems that there’s always someone that thinks that just about every one of these celebs must be African or have part African ancestry and if their not, they must be lying?! …What is that all about???? …Are the majority of the people on this site black or African American? Because they seem to be the only group of people that seem to be obsessed with race and wanting to claim everyone!!! Geez!!! Give it rest already!!! Let people be who they are and give it up already! …Just be happy with who you are and then you won’t concern yourselves with what other people are so much!!!

    • betty boo says:

      @ exotiq
      HONESTLY SPEAKING I THOUGHT HE WAS HALF BLACK HALF ASIAN (FILIPINO). NOT THAT IM TRYING TO PLACE HIM WHERE IS NOT. IN THIS CASE IT WAS AN INNOCENT THOUGHT.

    • betty boo says:

      PS I THOUGHT THE AFRICAN AMERICANS WERE CLAIMING TO BE WHITE OR OTHER RACES RATHER THAN BEING BLACK?

      • gottlob says:

        It’s a known fact African Americans are not pure Black. Predominantly Black yes but not pure.

        • betty boo says:

          @gottlob- not all but some. Just like the Africans, some are mixed and most are not.

          • gottlob says:

            NO you are wrong! It has been proven by science and history tells us that too. Don’t ge me started on the “white slaves” who were sold as ‘black slaves” because they were descent of Black Africans therefore not pure black or white.
            To be honest I don’t knw why you are telllng me this when you should be telling Fuzzybear when he’s on his mutliple rants, well it’s not ranting if it’s fact.

          • betty boo says:

            @gottlob- i beg to differ. Let’s just agree to dissagree. I’m telling you this not to urgue or any thing like that, i just was responding to your post.
            You mean to tell me all the white slaves intermarried with the black slaves? No that is not logic enough. I accept that in the past 20 years or so, there has been alot of interrmarriage going on and that is great because it promotes peace , love and unity. But i don’t agree that all African Americans are not pure Black. NOT all of our fore fathers were taken advantage of, not all intermarried. Im sorry.

          • gottlob says:

            Most African Blacks did get taken advantage of and those intermarried with other mixed Blacks and pure Blacks, therfore every African American is mixed, and in some occasions the “white slaves” who looked White but were descent of Black Africans intermarried with Whites. History and science back me up and FuzzyBear also..

          • fuzzybear44 says:

            @gottlob

            Hey don’t put me in this,however I do have to agree with most of what you said.Except for every African American being mixed,I say about 2/3.The other 1/3 are more pure(maybe 2 generations old),right from the mother land,and other places

          • fuzzybear44 says:

            @betty boo

            No all white slaves didn’t intermarried with black ones,however it did happen so often,that they had to come up with so many laws to tried to stop it(and even that did work,Irish nell is an example).Also,you don’t have to be married to have children. Black male slaves and indentured white female servants sometimes were made to have sex to procreate.It was a very cheap way to get slaves for life.Because of the laws,stating that the children would follow the parent into slavery.Look at (Elizabeth Key Grinstead),a slave who was not only the daughter of a white man,but whose common law husband was white. It was primarily white men and the Black slave women who were having babies mostly,because black women could be raped at will and many white men took advantage of that. Although there are indeed times when it was consensual(creoles for example) .Many African American families were started by through white women.Many of the great AA leaders were of mixed heritage(Frederick Douglass,W.E.B. DuBois,Malcolm X,Booker T. Washington etc).Then it’s not just black and white.There was something called the brown babies project.This project involved different countries like(england,Germany), sending their half blood babies fathered by black GI’s(thousands and thousands of babies),to raised by black families here.I forgot korea and Vietnam also had a little bit of exporting babies to.To much to write about the subject,so I’ll stop here.

            “Hey don’t put me in this”

            I put you into this becuase your are a self proclaimed expert on everything African Black. Don’t get mad at me for the reputation you give yourself.

            “however I do have to agree with most of what you said.Except for every African American being mixed”

            Funny how you are changing your story now so suddenly now… hmmm

            Like I said it’s self explanatory. Mixed blacks married pure blacks. Today that is what a African American is.

            You took it the wrong way,I was actually joking with you.I see you using my name a lot,and thought it would be funny,to say(Hey don’t put me in this),maybe I should have put LOL behind it.Now despite the fact that you referred to me as the (angry black guy),I thought we had progress to point where we were cool,and I could joke with you,however I guess I was wrong.

            (your are a self proclaimed expert on everything African Black )

            I take great pride in learning about everything(African black) as you call it,and I do my research(and have so for years now).Now while I don’t hold a degree in the subject,my brother does.I have access to all his books and other material on the subject. I’ve talked to his Professors as well as my own on the subject.So if someone make a incorrect comment on this subject,yes I’m going to correct them(I can’t help it,if they don’t like what I say).Now for the record,I always state that my information comes from people who are said to be experts in that field of study.

            (Funny how you are changing your story now so suddenly now… hmmm )

            Please show me where I made that statement( all AA’s were mixed)?I’ve always stated 2/3 or 66%,look at my past comments(If I said otherwise,please show it to me).Going by the Experts in the field,they state 75% of AA’s

            (Mixed blacks married pure blacks. Today that is what a African American is.)

            True enough,I didn’t degree with you. Especially in the past this happen.Also all the things I said to betty boo were true(feel free to look them up)

          • gottlob says:

            We are cool I have no problem with you and I have only called you “angry black guy” twice and never again. You forget that I’m European I do not get these kind of humour and I do use your name a lot because you are the #1 black activist on here and 99.8 % is all African Black talk on here.

            “Please show me where I made that statement( all AA’s were mixed)?”

            I thought you did in some post somewhere, I forget which one.. if I find it I will.

            At least you agree that I’m telling the truth.

      • fuzzybear44 says:

        @betty boo

        Now I can’t speak for all AA’s,however it’s a pretty safe bet,that they don’t go around claiming anything.Around here,no matter your skin tone or whatever,this stuff doesn’t come up;they just say they are black people.Also they don’t have to claim being white,everybody knows what happen here,because it happen everywhere else in the world.Also no it wasn’t all rape,a good part of the participants were willing.

    • MCantu says:

      @exotiq My words exactly Black People in America don’t really have their own identity that is why they want to claim other people.

    • Sequoia says:

      Baby, look first of all you can’t change history. We don’t try to claim nothing some of them state that they are of African descent, Ok! We are all of African descent look back to the Bible, God tells u that . White folks got all yall confused.

    • fuzzybear44 says:

      @Exotiq

      (What is it with the people on this site that love to make everyone Black or African??)

      How is stating that someone has a black ancestor,making them black?

      I have a lot of white european ancestry,but it doesn’t make me white

      I thought this was a site to learn about peoples ethnicity.However when it’s shown that they have a black ancestor,or may have one,all (H. E. double hockey sticks) breaks loose.

      (Are the majority of the people on this site black or African American? Because they seem to be the only group of people that seem to be obsessed with race and wanting to claim everyone)

      So AA’s are the only group on here obsessed with race?Also who are they trying to claim?

      When I do make a statement,I’m basing it on what i do know about the person.Also about the historical presents of black people in said country.However I’m not trying to claim anyone,I get nothing out of this.I’m not trying to(2% them,one black ancestor,or one drop them).What I find interesting,is why that’s the one ancestry,everyone gets upset about.

      It might also help,if these said latin celebrities,not take AA movie or t.v roles etc.I mean,if they wish to be seen as latino,stop playing AA.This is where the confusion comes in.

      (Just be happy with who you are and then you won’t concern yourselves with what other people are so much!!!)

      I thought that’s what this whole site was about.Learning about different peoples mixtures.How they could have same mixture as you,yet look completely different etc.
