Bill Sharman was an American professional basketball player and coach. He was a shooting guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1976, and a coach in 2004.

Bill was the son of Ola May and John Walton Sharman, Jr.

Bill’s paternal grandfather was John Walton Sharman (the son of James Sharman and Elizabeth Victoria McMichael). James was born in Jasper County, Georgia, the son of William Robert Sharman III and Nancy Stallings. Elizabeth was born in Georgia, the daughter of Green Lee McMichael and Elizabeth Nancy Hill.

Bill’s paternal grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Woodall (the daughter of Leonidas Lee Woodall and Margaret Virginia Wilson). Leonidas was born in Mississippi, the son of John Jackson Woodall and Mary Ann McAdams. Margaret was born in Mississippi, the daughter of Benjamin Dow Wilson and Elizabeth L. Hudson.

Bill’s maternal grandfather was Thomas Allen Wade (the son of Joseph M. Wade and Cynthia Ann Alexander). Cynthia was born in Henry County, Tennessee, the daughter of James Alexander and Hester Siddal.

Bill’s maternal grandmother was Mary Ann Williams (the daughter of Joel R. Williams and Lightfoot Ann Potts). Joel was born in Tennessee, the son of Green Ray Williams and Sarah Queen. Lightfoot was born in Kentucky, the daughter of John R. Potts and Mary A. Polly Burns.
