Alicia has said that the filmmakers of her movie The Danish Girl were:

…obsessed with me not looking Scandinavian and I was like, ‘I’m the only Scandinavian in the whole film.’ They paled my skin, to make me lighter. People say that I’m tanned, but that’s my natural color.

In an interview on Conan O’Brien’s show on May 5, 2015, Conan told Alicia,

there’s a misconception… there’s this belief that everyone who’s Swedish has blonde [hair], blue eyes… clearly you’re proof that that’s not the case.

Alicia replied,

I always get that question… where are your parents really from?… Do you know where your dad’s from?… [My parents] are both from very small villages, from up north and south of Sweden… I’m a quarter Finnish, but that doesn’t really make me much darker.

Alicia’s paternal line can be traced back to her seventh great-grandfather, Clement Clementsson.

Alicia’s paternal grandfather was Erik Yngve Vikander (the son of Lars Erik Vikander and Hilda Kristina Eriksson). Alicia’s grandfather Erik was born in Smedjebacken, Norrbärke, Dalarna County,. Alicia’s maternal grandfather was Anders Gustaf Edvard Fahl (the son of Gustaf Adolf Fahl and Anna Margareta Heideman/von Heideman). Alicia’s grandfather Anders was born in Annedal, Göteborg och Bohus, Sweden. Along with Swedish, Anders also had a small amount of Baltic German ancestry, and descent from Finland-Swedish nobility. Alicia’s great-grandfather Gustaf was the son of Erik Gustaf Georg Anders Henrik Fahl and Maria Andersdotter. Alicia’s great-grandmother Anna was the daughter of Georg Carl Fredrik Heideman/von Heideman and Gustafva Katarina Ulrika Raab.

Her paternal grandparents are listed as “uncertain”. And it already links to her maternal grandfather’s genealogy on that website.

yeah, I knew. Also the maternal grandparents are listed as “uncertain”, and they’re the same from Geni profile.

Maria Fahl Vikander’s first name is Britta based on public records.

I tried using the census records from 1970, and Svante Vikander, who was born on 23 October 1948 in Sundsvall, lived alone at that time. So, no luck. We will have to wait until the end of this year when the BMDs for 1948 will be opened to the general public at Riksarkivet because of 70-year-rule.

She never said such a thing or even implied that. She only speaks about the way she specifically looks … because people keep asking and do not believe she is Scandinavian.

  2. Kimmel says:

She doesn’t look Scandinavian or Swedish at all to me. Plus the surname isn’t helping either. I’m thinking Russian. But she’s definitely mixed with something.

Here is a genealogy of Alicia’s great-great-grandfather, Georg Carl Fredrik Heideman, that fills in some blanks: http://www.geni.com/people/Georg-Carl-Fredrik-von-Heideman/6000000028939506466

Alicia’s great-great-great-great-grandfather, Georg Henrik von Heideman, was born in Finland. His ancestry appears to be mostly Baltic German nobility, some Finland-Swedish nobility, and distant French and Russian.
