Agatha Christie was an English author. She wrote 66 detective novels, and is known particularly for her characters Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. She also used the pen name Mary Westmacot.

She was the daughter of Clarissa Margaret “Clara” (Boehmer) and Frederick Alvah “Fred” Miller. Her father was born in New York City, New York, U.S., and was of Colonial American descent, with English, as well as Dutch and Scottish, roots. Her mother was born in Dublin, Ireland, to a father from Martinique, who was of half German descent, and to an English mother. Her parents met after Agatha’s maternal grandmother’s sister Margaret West married Agatha’s paternal grandfather Nathaniel, then a widower. Agatha was raised mostly in Devon, and spent a year abroad in the French Pyrenees, Paris, Dinard, and Guernsey. Her nephew (sister’s son) was Conservative Party MP James Watts.

Agatha was married to archaeologist Max Mallowan, until her death. She had a daughter, Rosalind Hicks, with her former husband, businessperson and military officer Archie Christie.

Agatha’s paternal grandfather was Nathaniel Frary Miller (the son of Alvah Miller and Martha Hillman). Nathaniel was born in Massachusetts, and was a dry goods merchant. Alvah was the son of Jacob Miller and Mercy Johnson. Martha was born in Williamsburg, Hampshire, Massachusetts, the daughter of John Hillman IV and Patty Bodmen.

Agatha’s paternal grandmother was Martha Messerve/Messervey (the daughter of Elias B. Messerve and Ann van Buskirk). Martha was born in New York. Elias was the son of William Messerve and Hannah Sperry. Ann was the daughter of Cornelius van Buskirk and Magdalen Fraser.

Agatha’s maternal grandfather was Frederick Boehmer/Boemher (the son of Friedrich Conrad Heinrich “Frederick” Boehmer and Adelaide Styles). Agatha’s grandfather Frederick was born on Saint-Pierre, Arrondissement de Saint-Pierre, Martinique, and was a British Army officer. Agatha’s great-grandfather Friedrich was born in Pirmasens, Stadtkreis Pirmasens, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, the son of Heinrich Böhmer and Maria Elisabeth Stengelin.

Agatha’s maternal grandmother was Mary Ann “Polly” West (the daughter of Thomas West and Mary Ann Hoare Kelsey). Agatha’s grandmother Mary Ann was born in Chichester, Sussex, England. Thomas was the son of Thomas West and Henrietta Westmuckett. Agatha’s great-grandmother Mary Ann was the daughter of The Rev. Harry Kelsey and Margaret Lang Hoare.
