According to various websites, Steve McQueen had Slovak ancestry. That is rather bizarre.

Very bizarre indeed. They seem to claim that either he himself, his parents, or just his father, were/was born in Jastrabie, Michalovciach, Czechoslovakia, and that his birth name was originally Stefan Ihnat.

The thing is, Stefan Ihnat, better known as Steve Ihnat, was a completely different actor, who was born in Jastrabie. Why someone concluded that his life story was actually the life story of Steve McQueen, I have no idea.
