Stephen Root is an American actor, comedian, and voice actor.

He is the son of Leona and Rolland Root. Stephen is married to actress Romy Rosemont. He has a son with his former wife Laura.

Stephen’s paternal grandfather was Floyd Clair Root (the son of Charles Delbert Root and Alliah/Allia Delphia Bronson). Floyd was born in Utah. Charles was the son of Almon Sylvester Root and Helen Augusta Cole. Alliah was the daughter of Clinton Doneral Bronson and Lovisa Andrews.

Stephen’s paternal grandmother was named Ruth Hilty (the daughter of John Hilty and Martha). Ruth was born in Nebraska, of mostly German descent. The family surname was originally Hiltebeitel.

Stephen’s maternal grandfather was Leon Arthur Dickinson (the son of Clarence Andrew Dickinson and Stella Louise Gates). Leon was born in Massachusetts. Clarence was the son of John Kelsey Dickinson and Frances Emeline Weaver. Stella was the daughter of Leroy Fayette Gates and Emma Elizabeth Case.

Stephen’s maternal grandmother was Judith Augusta Erickson (the daughter of Olof Erikson and Augusta Gustafson). Judith was born in Stockholm, Sweden.

    Any reason to think Ruth Hilty (1899–1928) isn’t his paternal grandmother? His grandfather was married to her, and he’s already a widow on the 1930 census with Stephen’s dad.
    She seems to have been mostly German (Hilty was originally “Hiltebeitel” going back).
