Snoop Dogg is an American rapper, singer, record producer, television personality, entrepreneur, and actor. He is also known as Snoop Doggy Dogg, Snoop Lion, Bigg Snoop Dogg, Dogg Father, Snoop Rock, DJ Snoopadelic, Snoopzilla, FaZe Snoop, and N—–achi.

Snoop is the son of Beverly (Tate) and Vernell Varnado. His father was a Vietnam veteran, singer, and mail carrier. Snoop was born Cordozar Broadus, after Calvin Cordozar Broadus, who was not his biological father. He was called Calvin at home, and received the nickname “Snoopy” from his parents, after the fictional character. A picture of Snoop with his father can be seen here and a picture of Snoop with his mother can be seen here.

Snoop is married to Shante Taylor. He has four children, including three with Shante.

Snoop is a first cousin of professional wrestler and actress Sasha Banks. He is also a first cousin of hip hop producer Daz Dillinger, through his mother Allean Varnado; and is said to be a cousin of musicians/actors Brandy Norwood and Ray J, who are siblings.

Snoop’s paternal grandfather was William Varnado (the son of Cornelius Varnado and Annie/Anna Patterson). Snoop’s grandfather William was born in Mississippi. The surname Varnado in Mississippi originates with a French immigrant named Vernadeau. Cornelius likely was the son of Robert Varnado and Tempie.

Snoop’s paternal grandmother was Minnie Felder (the daughter of Charles/Charlie/Charley Felder and Carrie Owens/Owen). Minnie was born in Mississippi.

Snoop’s maternal grandfather was Jeremiah Tate (the son of John Tate and Maud/Maude Christophers/Christopher). Jeremiah was born in Mississippi. John was the son of Dave Tate and Letha A.

Snoop’s maternal grandmother was Dorothy Dean Martin (the daughter of George Martin and Annie Brown). Dorothy was born in Mississippi. George was the son of Gabriel Martin and Rose Gallagher/Galliton.

A DNA test whose results were displayed on the show Lopez Tonight (2010) stated that Snoop’s genetic ancestry is:

*71% Sub-Saharan African
*23% Native American
*6% European

Like others said, highly doubt he has any native ancestry.

Fun fact: Native ancestry is, and cannot be detected properly via a DNA test. We are a genetically different race all together and it’s not as simple as just testing the our DNA. Most blacks aren’t mixed with Native, their mixed with European.

And if he was that much, wouldn’t he know? wouldn’t he be enrolled? wouldn’t it be able to be proven?

It would be documented, Native ancestry is the most documented in Canada and America, all kinds of info are available in the government, archives, etc. It’s not possible for it to not be found if you are a recent and truly mixed native( 1/2, 1/4 MAX) Not 1/300th.

And also that, it is EXTREMELY rare for a natives to be mixed with blacks, even less than whites ( even then, halfies and quarters and fulls are extremely rare to meet outside of the reservation/reserve) So please. Stop this nonsense of “everyone and their dog is mixed with native” because we are a complete MINORITY in Canada and America. it’s rare for people to be mixed with Native American Ancestry. And actually a true descent of a recent mother or father of full or half blood quantum.

      • midori29 says:

@Leslie 4, what you are saying in incorrect for the most part. I am a black/native American, of South American descent, well people should say “Amerindian”. Anyhow, as for basic African Americans most are just white mixed. BUT some African Americans have Carribean and South American black ancestors. And there are MANY MANY blacks in the Carribean and South America that are mixed with Indian, so you just do not know facts.
I can believe Snoops results, he has wavy fine textured non-afro kinky hair and other features that make this dna test believable. Additionally, some native Americans and Africans did mix as the Native Aamerican tribes welcomed slaves to escape to their freedom. Furthermore, there were Africans who traveled to the Americas before Christopher Columbus and mixed with Indians.

@Leslie4 , your quote “And also that, it is EXTREMELY rare for a natives to be mixed with blacks”. With your quote here , you need to re-read American history, pay attention in school and visit the Carribean and South America. The speak to black people who have migrated to America.

      • Thenabster says:

It’s not really rare. People in the Carribbean tend to be mixed

    • LuKeBishop says:

It’s definitely possible that he has Native ancestry. One possibility is that he might have a mestizo (European/Indian) grandparent fairly recently in his lineage. Also Cherokee, Creek, Chocktaw, and Chickasaw tribes have also been known to own slaves and father children with them. I will agree that for the most part it’s true that MOST black people only have European admixture. Snoop Dogg and a few others are the exception.

Those pop-DNA tests such as the type used in the George Lopez show are less than worthless. There is no way in hell Snoop Dogg is roughly 25% Native-American. That’s a LOT of Indian ancestry and if he had that much he’d know it and he’d look more like a Mexican. If anything I’d say he’s more likely 23% European and I doubt he’s got any Native American ancestry but if he does it’d be like a trace amount.

    • midori29 says:

@Ectag, not true people do not look beyond dark skin, but not everyone mixed is born with lighter skin. There chocolate skin toned black people who are mixed too. Skin tone is the LEAST DETERMINANT of admixture.

East african ,and peul (ethnic group from west africa )look like this without mix with other race !!!

    • bosshoss says:

30 percent of Peul fullas have west European halplogroups from paternal side DNA and 8.1 percent from maternal DNA. Arabs also migrated to the region during the spread of Islam and small populations of Khoisan were there.

      • midori29 says:

@Bosshoss, everyone likes to make the argument on Arab admixture in East Africa but this is miniscule and did not have an affect on what East Africans look like. Africa is a very diverse place, very distinct in looks. There were fossil records of ancient East Africans and they had the same facial features and varying hair textures that they still have in modern day times. This proves that many East Africans look the way they do because of climate and weather changes from other parts of Africa. NOT because they have Arab admixture. The Arabs in other words, DID NOT give them their appearance today.

    • midori29 says:

@YSLA, Snoop dogg is of West African descent, so in particular African Americans come from Ghana and Nigeria, Ginuea, so Snoops features outside of these distinct West African countries would be just 100% African in many places. Africa is so diverse in peoples. But because African Americans come from specific parts of West Africa so different features dominate. So yes Snoop Dogg could be an unmixed East African but his ancestry likely does not come from East Africa.
