She is married to composer Mel Elias, with whom she has one child.

Sarah’s paternal grandfather was Bernard J. Butler (likely the son of Bernard Butler and Irene). Sarah’s grandfather Bernard was born in New York. Sarah’s great-grandfather Bernard was born in New York, the son of Alfred Butler, whose parents were from Ireland and England, and of Mary, whose father was Irish.
