Rob Thomas is an American author, producer, director, and screenwriter. He created the shows Cupid (1998, and 2009) and Veronica Mars, co-developed the show 90210 (2008), and co-created the shows Party Down and iZombie, the latter two of which he also directed episodes of. He wrote for all of the above shows, as well as for Dawson’s Creek. He wrote the film Drive Me Crazy (1999) and directed and co-wrote the Veronica Mars film (2014). He has used the pen name Everett Owens for writing books in The X-Files young adult series.
Rob’s paternal grandfather is Hoyt Albert Thomas (the son of John Edgar Thomas and Nannie Florence Pope). Hoyt was born in Washington. John was born in Virginia, the son of Sampson C. Thomas and Sarah Elizabeth Blankenbeckler. Nannie was born in North Carolina, the daughter of William W. Pope and Rebecca Brotherton.
Rob’s paternal grandmother is Mary Aline McDonald (the daughter of Edward McDonald and Hazel Ervin). Mary Aline was born in South Dakota. Edward was born in South Dakota, the son of James P. McDonald, who was Irish, and of Bridget, whose parents were Irish. Hazel was born in South Dakota, the daughter of Henry Noah Ervin and Minnie Zella Darr.
