Pramila Jayapal is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Washington, since January 3, 2017, and Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, since January 3, 2021. She is the first Indian-American woman in the House.

Pramila is the daughter of Maya Jayapal, a writer, and MP Jayapal, a marketing professional. Her sister, Susheela Jayapal, is Multnomah County Commissioner in Oregon. Her parents are from Palakkad, Kerala.

Pramila was raised in India, Indonesia, and Singapore, and moved to the U.S. in 1982 to attend college, becoming a U.S. citizen in 2000. Pramila is married to Steven R. Williamson, and has one child.
