Pete Rose was an American professional baseball player, and manager. A switch hitter and outfielder, he played with the Cincinnati Reds, part of their “the Big Red Machine;” the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Montreal Expos, of Major League Baseball (MLB), and coached the Cincinnati Reds. He won three World Series championships, and one MVP Award; and was MLB’s leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), singles (3,215), and outs (10,328). He was nicknamed “Charlie Hustle.”

Pete was the son of LaVerne Mae and Harry Francis “Pete” Rose. He had two children, including professional baseball player and manager Pete Rose, Jr., with his former wife Karolyn Englehardt; a daughter with another partner; and two children, including actress Cara/Chea Courtney, with his former wife Carol J. Woliung.

Pete’s paternal granfather was Otta/Otto F. Rose (the son of John William Rose and Nora Alice Badgley). Otta was born in Whiteoak Township, Ohio. John was the son of Nathaniel Green Rose and Susan Marie Cameron. Nora was the daughter of George Washington Badgley and Mary E. “Mollie” Day.

Pete’s paternal grandmother was Eva Kathryn/Katherine Smart (the daughter of William Smart and Mary Mitchell). Eva was born in Ripley, Ohio. William was the son of Charles Smart and Matilda Fields.

Pete’s maternal grandfather was Edward Henry Bloebaum (the son of Charles Frederick “Karl” Bloebaum and Catharine/Catherine Dorothea Wachendorf). Edward was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Charles was German, from Prussia. Catharine was the daughter of German parents, Hermann Wachendorf and Anna Sophia Brengelman.

Pete’s maternal grandmother was Annie Laura Fox (the daughter of Zachariah Taylor Fox and Angeline/Anna Davis). Annie was born in Kentucky. Zachariah was the son of Peter Fox and Susan Bills. Angeline was the daughter of John Davis, who was German.
