Pat Brown was an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as California Attorney General, from January 8, 1951 to January 5, 1959, and Governor of California, from January 5, 1959 to January 2, 1967.

He was a candidate of the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1952, 1956, 1960, and 1964.

Pat was the son of Ida (Schuckman) and Edmund Joseph Brown. His father was born in California, to Irish parents, from County Tipperary. His mother was born in California, to German parents.

Among his four children with his wife, Bernice E. (Layne) Brown, is Jerry Brown, who was also Attorney General of California, from 2007 to 2011, Governor of California, from 1975 to 1983, and again, from 2011 to 2019, and who was a candidate for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, in several cycles.

Pat’s paternal grandfather was named Joseph Brown (the son of Michal Brown and Johanna).

Pat’s paternal grandmother was named Bridget Burke (the daughter of Edmund Burke).

Pat’s maternal grandfather was named August Schuckman. August was from Lippe.

Pat’s maternal grandmother was Augusta A. Feidler (the daughter of Franz Feidler, or of Mathias Fiedler and Helena Schuerhoff).
