Place of Birth: Sofia, Bulgaria

Date of Birth: January 9, 1989

Ethnicity: Bulgarian

Nina Dobrev is an actress and model. She is known for starring in the series The Vampire Diaries.

Nina was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, to Bulgarian parents, Michaela (Radeva) and Konstantin Dobrev. When she was two, her family moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she was raised. She is fluent in English, French, and Bulgarian.

A picture of Nina with her father can be seen here. A picture of Nina with her mother and brother can be seen here.

Nina once stated “I’m a Gypsy, what can I say…” It is not clear if she was referring to being of the Romani ethnic group, or to the term “gypsy” as it is sometimes used to refer to lifestyle habits. It appears that Nina often refers to herself as a “gypsy” in this latter way.

Two of Nina’s grandparents are named Aleksandr and Efi.

Nina is Bulgarian Canadian. She moved to Canada at the age of 2 and was raised there. Place insert that in the article.

    • Me myself and I says:

this is about ethnicity! not about nationality.. it’s not important if she lives in Canada or in Germany or in Australia.. she comes from Bulgaria, her blood is Bulgarian her mom is Bulgarian everything about her is Bulgarian.. and if she wants she can go to Mars she’ll always be 100000% Bulgarian so.. shut the fuck up! :D

So basically, what all of you are saying is that, everyone who is “bulgarian” or from “bulgaria” is white. Not true. I’m almost positive that there are black or mixed Bulgarians out there. If anyone is being ignorant, it’s
The people saying that all Bulgarians are white. The whole thing about race
Is stupid anyway because just because you look white, black, asian you are not fully that whole race because somewhere in your family tree, an asian had a kid with a black or white person or vice versa. No one is fully one race. And honestly, why should it matter what race people are, God
    Made us all equal anyways.

This site clearly says ETHNICITY. Nina’s ethnicity is Bulgarian. A black man from Bulgaria is only Bulgarian by Nationality not by ethnicity. So you are incorrect. A black man from England ain’t English ethnically now is he?

I agree that everyone is mixed but your argument was pointless. We are talking about ethnicity, not nationality.

      • Angantyr says:

Depends on your view on ethnicity. But most would agree with you….however, it should not be used for racism. Black Bulgarians are equally Bulgarian because they would be part of the Bulgarian culture.

Also ”white” is quite loose. Slavs share a lot of genetics with Altaic people, same with Uralic people (and Scandinavians due to the mixing with Uralic) so who really cares about colour codes?

    • Angantyr says:

Also, I disagree with you, Taylor. No one is more than one race. Everyone is one race. Ethnicity exists, races don’t.

Everyone is mixed, ethnically, far enough back but that does not mean they are ”mixed-race”, unless they have some Neanderthals in their family tree.

    • Elina says:

In that case must every one identify as mixed?? :/ NO obviously not, people tend to identify with the most dominant race. With Nina, I highly doubt she is mixed, she definitely looks European BUT even if she did have some non-white in her down the line, what major difference would it make? Besides, its not about what we think, it’s her words. She says bulgarian so we should respect it.

      • Bella says:

Europeans are not only pale! Seriously, look beyond the stereotypes! It shows just how narrow-minded and ignorant you are! Its like me saying that Kerri Hilson is too light to be fully black. Are you out of your mind?

    • Bella says:

If it was a black women that looked slightly non-black you wouldn’t be saying that now would you?

    • Sarah says:

There aren’t many black or mixed people in Bulgaria now and what about 20+ years ago. These are the Balkans not USA or South Africa. So yes it’s correct to say that bulgarian=white.

      • blanca says:

Ah yes Bulgarians are white – what the fuck a black Bulgarian? We are talking about a country that is still trying to eradicate Neo-Nazi ideologies the only reason there would be blacks there would be from the French.

Europeans have so much more phenotypic diversity than Africans, our hair colour ranges from blonde, to brown, to black, to red. Our eyes from blue to green to brown to almost black. Our skin from pale white in the north to olive in Mediterranean.

The pure black can be found Sub Saharan Africa (because he never migrated, his geographical region demanded no more from him) and west africa – all sharing the darkest hues of pigmentation, flat wide noses, full lips, prognatheous jaws, occipital buns, and relatively similar cranial measurements. The blacks in North America like Keri Hilson, whether you want to admit it or not, have European, Amerindian or Asian admixture somewhere down the line, which have resulted in their lighter skin hues, finer features and even lighter eyes, like in the case of Vanessa Williams.

Well you might as well grab a banana, because you kind descends from monkeys to.Also stop speaking for god,I seriously doubt anyone was made inferior to anyone else. The only reason things are the way they are now is because ,over the generations certain groups wanted peace, why others took what they wanted through violence;and having the superior weapons at the time.If all thing weapons back in the day were even,no telling who would be on top right now
