Louis Farrakhan is an American religious leader and political activist. He heads the Nation of Islam (NOI). He has also been a minister of mosques in Boston and Harlem. Louis was appointed National Representative of the Nation of Islam by NOI leader Elijah Muhammad. He is also known as Louis X.

Louis is the son of Sarah Mae Manning (later Sumayah Farrakhan) and Percival Clarke. His father was Jamaican. His mother was Kittian. His parents separated while his mother was pregnant, and his stepfather was Louis Walcott, from Barbados, whose name he was born under. He was raised partly in Boston.

Louis is married to Khadijah Farrakhan, with whom he has nine children.
