Liu Xiaobo was a Chinese literary critic, writer, human rights activist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2010.

His father, Liu Ling, was a professor, who taught Chinese literature at Northeast Normal University, and was born in Hauide, Gongzhuling, Jilin. His mother, Zhang Suqin, worked at a kindergarten affiliated with the university.

He was married to poet Liu Xia, until his death. He had a son with his former wife, Tao Li.
