His father, Nils Axel Hallström, was a dentist. His mother, Karin (Lyberg), was a writer. Lasse is married to actress Lena Olin. He has a son with his former wife, actress Marlene Christine Malou Nordgren; and a daughter with Lena.

Lasse’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his fifth great-grandfather, Sven Persson (died 1749, Björnlunda, Södermanland).

Lasse’s paternal grandfather was Carl Herman Hallström (the son of Carl Axel Hellström and Mathilda Ulrika “Tilda” Rasmtröm). Lasse’s grandfather Carl was born in Floda, Södermanland. Lasse’s great-grandfather Carl was the son of Sven August Hallström and Albertina Elisabet Amanda Dybeck. Mathilda was the daughter of Claes Olof Ramström and Christina Ulrika “Ulla” Gustafsson.

Lasse’s paternal grandmother was Elin Sofia Fredrique, later Fredrika, Schmidt (the daughter of Carl Magnus Ludvig Smidt, later Schmidt, and of Fredrika Söderlund). Elin was born in Kalmar, Kalmar. Carl was the son of Jens Hansen Smidt and Julia Maria Pihl. Jens was likely Norwegian or Dutch. Lasse’s great-grandmother Fredrika was the daughter of Carl Johan Söderlund and Fredrika Lindgren.

Lasse’s maternal grandfather was Ernst Emil Lyberg (the son of Johan Emil Lyberg and Emelie Christina Johanna Kahlström). Ernst, who was born in Visby, Gotland, was the Minister of Finance in the first cabinet of Carl Gustaf Ekman (1926–1928) and leader of the Liberal Party of Sweden (1930–1933). Lasse’s great-grandfather Johan was the son of Carl Johan Jacobsson Lyberg and Emilia Eleonora Nyberg, who was of part Danish and German descent. Lasse’s great-grandmother Emelie was the daughter of Carl Johan Kahlström and Anna Christina Carlström.

Lasse’s maternal grandmother was Margot Lindström (the daughter of Herman Rudolf Lindström and Elin Charlotta Herlitz). Margot was born in Visby, Gotland, and was part of German descent. Herman was the son of Törne Albrekt Lindström and Mathilda Sofia Catharina Cramér. Elin was the daughter of Gabriel Jakob Uerlitz/Herlitz and Hedvig Hermanna Cramér. Lasse’s great-great-grandmothers Mathilda and Hedvig were sisters.

Lasse’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his eighth great-grandmother, Petronella Nilsdotter Brönsinia (died 16 May 1677, Kräklingbo, Gotland).

I was trying to find Carl Schmidt’s parents. On his confirmation record, his parents are left blank, and since “ökande” (unknown) is not written I can’t assume whether he was legitimate who was orphaned at an early age or a foundling. I tried find his baptismal record at Klara Church where he was said to be baptized according to his first emigration record, both of legitimate and illegitimate children, at the same church, but no luck. It also says on his first emigration record that his foster father’s surname is Löfgren. There are household examination books in the same church but not indexed, making search difficult. Here’s what I found so far: (in chronological order, do not include these as sources except for confirmation)

Confirmation at Klara Church, Stockholm on 24 May 1857: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/00008105_00007
