John Madden was an American professional football coach, and sportscaster/commentator.

He was the son of Mary Margaret and Earl Russell Madden. He was raised in Daly City, California. John was married to Virginia Fields, with whom he had two children.

John’s paternal grandfather was William Augustus “Will” Madden (the son of John Franklin Madden and Elizabeth Wert). William was born in Iowa. John’s great-grandfather John was born in Pennsylvania, the son of Andrew Madden and Elizabeth Porter.
