John Garfield was an American actor. His parents, Hannah Basia (Margolis/Margulis) and David Garfinkel, were Jewish emigrants, from Zhytomyr, now Ukraine. His father was a clothes presser and cantor. He was added the middle name Julius during his childhood. He was married to Roberta Seidman, until his death, with whom he had three children.

John’s paternal grandfather was named Philip Garfinkel.
