John Garfield was an American actor. His films include Four Daughters, They Made Me a Criminal, Blackwell’s Island, Dust Be My Destiny, Destination Tokyo, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Nobody Lives Forever, Humoresque, Body and Soul, Gentleman’s Agreement, The Breaking Point, and He Ran All the Way.

His parents, Hannah Basia (Margolis/Margulis) and David Garfinkel, were Jewish emigrants, from Zhytomyr, now Ukraine. His father was a clothes presser and cantor. He was added the middle name Julius during his childhood. He was married to Roberta Seidman, until his death, with whom he had three children.

John’s paternal grandfather was named Philip Garfinkel.

John’s maternal grandfather was named Froim Margolis.

John’s maternal grandmother was named Mariam Glikstein.
