Hilary Swank is an American actress and producer. She has twice won the Academy Award for Best Actress, for Boys Don’t Cry (1999) and Million Dollar Baby (2004). Her roles also include the series Camp Wilder, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Alaska Daily, and the films Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Next Karate Kid, Sometimes They Come Back… Again, The Gift, The Affair of the Necklace, Insomnia, The Core, Red Dust, The Black Dahlia, Freedom Writers, P. S. I Love You, Birds of America, Amelia, Conviction, The Resident, You’re Not You, Logan Lucky, What They Had, The Hunt, and Fatale.

Hilary was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was raised in Bellingham, Washington. She is the daughter of Judy and Stephen Swank. Hilary is married to entrepreneur Philip Schneider, with whom she has two children.

Hilary’s maternal grandmother, Frances Martha Dominguez, was born in El Centro, California, to a family of Mexican origin; some of her ancestors had lived in California for several generations, while others had moved from Mexico more recently. On Inside the Actors Studio, 2009, Hilary stated that her maternal grandmother was of “80% Spanish and 20% Shoshone Native American descent.” In the sense of many Mexicans being of mixed Spanish and Native American (Indigenous Mexican) ancestry, Hilary’s statement is correct, though it is not clear if she has verified/documented Shoshone ancestry, specifically.

Hilary’s other ancestry is English, German, and smaller amounts of Swiss-German, Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, Welsh, and Dutch. Hilary’s paternal grandmother was an English war bride.

Hilary’s patrilineal line can be traced to her great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Balthasar Schwenck/Swank, who was born, c. 1716, in Württemberg, Germany.

Hilary’s paternal grandfather was Glen Ellsworth Swank (the son of Lewis Ellsworth/Elsworth Swank and Lottie Tedrow). Glen was born in Kellerton, Ringgold, Iowa. Lewis was the son of William Henry Harrison Swank and Amanda Josephine Phillips. Lottie was the daughter of Grant Tedrow and Alice L. Gilmore, whose paternal grandparents were from Wiltshire, England.

Hilary’s paternal grandmother was Marion Elaine Allenspach (the daughter of Walter Charles Allenspach and Lucy Creek). Marion was born in Barnstaple, Devon, England. Walter’s father, Isaac Allenspach, was Swiss, of Swiss-German descent. Walter’s mother, Annie Sarah Noyes, was English.

Hilary’s maternal grandfather was James Kenneth “Kenny” Clough (the son of Harold Frederick/Frederic Clough and Dora Annabelle McMillin/McMillan). James was born in Ellston, Ringgold, Iowa. Harold was the son of John Clough, whose father was from Alna, Lincoln, Maine, and of Carrie Dell/Della Martin. Dora was the daughter of William P. McMillin and Sarah A.

Hilary’s maternal grandmother was Frances Martha Dominguez (the daughter of Frank Raymond/Roman Dominguez and Martha B. Rodriguez). Frances was born in El Centro, Imperial, California. Frank was the son of Juan Pedro Dominguez and Maria Andrea Grajeda. Hilary’s great-grandmother Martha was the daughter of Romana Coronada.

Now I see, the Mexican part of her took over and she lost her looks after “The Next Karate Kid” 1994. She used to be hot.

  2. Alice says:

Aren’t Mexicans of other ethnicities like Spanish & other European nationalities and Native Indian? Mexicans are like Americans and have varied ancestries.

      To Alice

Yes(German.French,Irish,Hindu,Chinese,Filipino,African, Syrian etc). You pretty much named it,all in Mexico

    • fuzzybear44 says:

      To follers

( Well, they are, but I think on this site, people of Spanish/Native Mexican descent are usually described as of Mexican descent.)

Well that’s because on this site, that’s the only ethnicity they will except

      • rickyflo says:

Nahhh, Follers the Spanish meant spaniard. Think of it this way, she isas cameron diaz in a way,Caucasian again. Gosh I hate this site now.

You’re absolutely right! Many people think for some reason, that “Mexican” automatically means mixed Native Americans/ Europeans. or fool-blooded Native. This is necessary to understand as well as in the case of Northern America, Southern Africa or Austarlia

    • leslie2 says:

Not all Mexicans are half Native. There are white Mexicans, mestizo Mexicans (mixed with Indigenous Mexican tribe full blooded Indigenous Mexicans, and white/Spanish blood) Mulatto ( Black, white, and Indigenous) Arab Mexicans, Asian-Mexicans,and European/white Mexicans(who have no ancestry in Mexico/are only recent immigrants). It’s tough to generalize,
because apparently Jessica Alba (although she is half Mexican, is only like 6% Indigenous Mexican)

How can she be Mexican is her grandmother was 80% Spanish and 20% Shoshone? When most of their territory was in the USA above all?

Not saying she is lying, but really though she looks mostly if not completely white.

      I don’t get it.

      • leslie2 says:

there are also full blood-indigenous tribes in Mexico/Central America. It really varies from the person and their family. I’ve seen fully white/Spanish mexicans before, who look no different then most European Spaniards.

      • follers says:

I don’t know why she said “80%” and “20%” or where she got this information from. Her grandmother was from a Mexican family. I doubt they would have identified specifically with a Native American tribe.

      • Dogg says:

MAYBE SHE LOOKS WHITE BECAUSE SHE’S ONLY 1/4 MEXICAN?

    • hanna says:

Yes. My grandparents were born in Mexico they are both blue eyed and light skin and dark hair. There are tons of different people from all over the word in mexico. stupid american tv makes mexicans look ugly

    • Mexican are mestizos says:

No, Mexicans are Mexicans : Mix Spanish and NA mostly native look. The few white that u know are in the TV n are of Spanish descent

  3. hunnykinsgirl says:
