Halimah Yacob is a Singaporean politician. She has served as President of Singapore, and Chancellor of the National University of Singapore, both, since 14 September, 2017. She was previously the 9th Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, from 14 January, 2013 to 7 August, 2017, among other duties.
President Halimah’s father was an Indian-born government watchman, who died when she was eight years old. President Halimah’s mother, Maimun Abdullah, was Malay.
President Halimah is married to Mohammed Abdullah Alhabshee, who is of Malay Arab descent, and with whom she has five children. President Halimah is a Muslim.
