Georges Pompidou was a French politician. A member of the Union of Democrats for the Republic, he served as Prime Minister of France, from 14 April, 1962 to 10 July, 1968, and President of France, and Co-Prince of Andorra, from 20 June, 1969 to 2 April, 1974. He was also a Member of the Constitutional Council, from 5 March, 1959 to 14 April, 1962.

Georges was the son of Marie Louise and Léon Pompidou, who were teachers. His grandparents were farmers. He attended school in Toulouse and Paris. He was married to Claude Pompidou (born Claude Jacqueline Cahour), a philanthropist and art patron, until his death. The couple had a son, scientist and politician Alain Pompidou, who was adopted.

President Pompidou’s paternal grandfather was Jean Pompidou (the son of Jacques Pompidou and Marie Anne Malroux). Jean was born in Vezac, Auvergne. Jacques was the son of Martin Pompidou and Jeanne Lafon. Marie was the daughter of Guillaume Malroux and Anne Fau.

President Pompidou’s paternal grandmother was Jeanne Anastasia Renac (the daughter of Jean Baptiste Renac and Toinette Monboisse). Jeanne was born in Saint-Julien-de-Toursac, Auvergne. Jean was the son of Jean Renac and Marie Grimal. Toinette was the daughter of Antoine Monboisse and Marie Mazières.

President Pompidou’s maternal grandfather was Etienne Chavagnac (the son of Léger Chavagnac and Françoise Echavisbre). Etienne was born in Condat, Auvergne. Léger was the son of Pierre Chavagnac and Anne Trapenat. Françoise was the daughter of Jean Echavisbre and Anne Barbat.

President Pompidou’s maternal grandmother was Marie Eugénie Espinasse (the daughter of Louis Espinasse and Marguerite Manaranche). Marie was born in Montboudif, Auvergne. Louis was the son of Antoine Espinasse and Jeanne Malbec. Marguerite was the daughter of François Manaranche and Jeanne Buisson.
