George Martin was an English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, and musician. He is known for his extensive work with The Beatles, and was commonly referred to as the “fifth Beatle.” During his career, he produced 30 number-one hit singles in the U.K., and 23 number-one hits in the U.S., and won six Grammy Awards.
He was the son of Bertha Beatrice and Henry “Harry” Martin, a carpenter. George was raised in Highbury, London. He was married to Judy Lockhart Smith, until his death. He had two children, including writer and actor Gregory Paul Martin, with his former wife Jean (“Sheena”) Chisholm; and two children, including record producer, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Giles Martin, with Judy.
