Ed Davey is an English politician. He has been Leader of the Liberal Democrats, since 13 December, 2019; initially in an acting capacity. He has also been a Member of Parliament for Kingston and Surbiton, from 1 May, 1997 to 30 March, 2015, and again, since 8 June, 2017; Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, from 3 February, 2012 to 8 May, 2015, and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, from 3 September, 2019 to 27 August, 2020, among other duties. He was previously an economics researcher and financial analyst, and a spokesperson for Liberal Democrat leaders. As Energy and Climate Change Secretary, he approved the construction of Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, and worked on increasing competition in the energy market and streamlining customer switching.

Ed is the son of Nina Joan and John George Davey, a solicitor. His parents had both died by the time he was fifteen, and he was raised by his maternal grandparents in the village Eakring. He is married to Emily Gasson, with whom he has two children. Emily has run for office several times. Ed speaks English, French, German, and Spanish.

Ed’s paternal grandfather was John William Davey (the son of John Thomas Davey and Mary Jane Hewes). Ed’s grandfather John was born in New Brinsley, Nottinghamshire. Ed’s great-grandfather John was the son of John Thomas Davey and Anne Smithurst. Mary Jane was the daughter of William Hewes and Emma Henshaw.

Ed’s paternal grandmother was Sarah Eveline Minkley (the daughter of Joseph Minkley and Sarah Jacques). Ed’s grandmother Sarah was born in Selston, Nottinghamshire. Joseph was the son of George Minkley and Phoebe Ann Gregory. Ed’s great-grandmother Sarah was the daughter of John Jacques and Elizabeth Ann Wharton.

Ed’s maternal grandfather was Alban Henry Stanbrook (the son of Charles Henry Stanbrook and Rhoda Bennett). Alban was born in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Charles was the son of Sarha Anne. Rhoda was the daughter of David Bennett and Louisa Fountain.

Ed’s maternal grandmother was Emma Maud Lawton (the daughter of Samuel Algernon Lawton and Nina Maud Gibbons). Emma was born in Rising Sun, Pimlico, London. Samuel was the son of William Lawton and Emma Kent. Nina was the daughter of Ernest Edward Gibbons and Maria Slann.
