Birth Name: Darren Charles Barnet
Place of Birth: Los Angeles, California, United States
Date of Birth: April 27, 1991
Ethnicity: Japanese (maternal grandmother), German, Irish, Scottish, Swedish, Dutch
Darren Barnet is an American actor. He is known for his roles on the shows Turnt, Never Have I Ever, as Paxton Hall-Yoshida; Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, and Skull Island, the latter two in voice performance; and in the films American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules, Untitled Horror Movie, Love Hard, and Gran Turismo.
He was raised in Orlando, Florida, during his teen years. Darren speaks Japanese and conversational Spanish.
He is also said to have Cherokee Native American ancestry on his father’s side. It is not clear if this Cherokee ancestry has been verified/documented.
Darren’s paternal grandfather was jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Charlie Barnet (born Charles Daly Barnet, the son of Willard Raymond Barnet and Charline Daly). Charlie was born in New York. Willard was the son of William Dale Barnet, whose parents were Scottish, and of Elizabeth Ellen Huff. Charline was the daughter of Charles Frederick Daly, who was a vice-president for the New York Central Railroad, a banker, and a businessperson, and whose parents were Irish; and of Edith Belle Clark.
Darren’s paternal grandmother was singer Harriet Clark (born Harriet M. Umbach, the daughter of Harry Victor Umbach and Mae Muller). Harry was the son of Julius Umbach, who was German, and of Elizabeth Scheel, whose parents also were German. Mae was the daughter of George Muller and Margarethe Erbe, who were born in New York, both of them to German parents.
Darren’s maternal grandfather was Frederick John Borkman (the son of Victor George Borkman and Austia Mildred Davis). Frederick was born in Ohio. Victor was the son of Fred Borkman and Mary Adolphson, who were Swedish. Austia was the daughter of John Davis, who was born in Ohio, to Welsh parents, and of Elizabeth Giles “Lizzie” Carter.
Darren’s maternal grandmother was named Toshi Takeda. Toshi was born in Osaka, Japan. She came to the U.S. in 1953.

I am not sure through which line his supposed Cherokee ancestry comes from, but it’s all either recent European immigrants, or Americans with deeper roots, but all from around New York and New England area. He does have quite a few Dutch ancestors on his paternal grandfather’s side.
It should be stated that the role he is known for is from the series Never Have I Ever

Likely his grandfather:

His obituary only includes his sister as a survivor.
The first of the two links is definitely his grandfather if this is to be believed (he is mentioned in the bottom as Toshi’s husband):

So the question would then be just if they are of the same person or not. Apart from the name and birth place, they both lived in Ohio. I don’t think there were many Frederick Borkmans there.
It can’t be the same man if the one you’re looking for was born in Ohio.
One tree has these as his parents:

His grandfather lived in Ohio but wasn’t (necessarily) born there. The man on the census was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Ohio, which is consistent with the death record of his grandfather.
