Claude Rains was an English and American actor. His films included The Invisible Man (1933), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Wolf Man (1941), Now, Voyager; Casablanca, Kings Row, Notorious (1946), Lawrence of Arabia, and The Greatest Story Ever Told.
He was the son of Emily Eliza (Cox) and Fred Rains (Frederick William Rains), who was an actor and film director. He became a U.S. citizen in 1939. Claude was married to Rosemary Clark Schrode, until his death. He had a daughter, actress Jessica Rains, with his former wife Frances Propper.
Claude’s paternal grandfather was named Alfred Rains.
