Chris Stapleton is an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer.

His father, Herb, Jr., was a coal miner and electrical engineer, from Logan, West Virginia. His mother, Carol, worked at the local health department. He was raised in Staffordsville, Kentucky. Chris is married to singer and songwriter Morgane Stapleton, with whom he has five children.

Chris’ patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his 29th great-grandfather, Galfridas de Stapleton.

Chris’ paternal grandfather was Herbert Joseph Stapleton, Sr. (the son of Troy “Charley” Stapleton and Kate “Kattie” Stephens). Herbert was born in Kentucky. Chris’ maternal grandmother was Jatama Alegris O’Dell (the daughter of Curtis John O’Dell and Leatha Jane McCutcheon). Jatama was born in West Virginia.
