Chick Corea was an American jazz composer, pianist, keyboardist, bandleader, and percussionist.

Chick was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, the son of Anna (Zaccone) and Armando John Corea, a trumpeter, who led a Dixieland band in Boston in the 1930s and 1940s. His father was of Calabrian descent. His mother was of Sicilian ancestry. Chick was introduced to piano at the age of four.

Chick’s paternal grandfather was Anthony Corea (the son of Gianbattista Corea and Anna Dardano). Anthony was born in Albi, Province of Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy.
