Chaim Weizmann was an Israeli biochemist, Zionist leader, and statesman. He served as the 1st President of Israel, from 17 February, 1949 to 9 November, 1952, and the 2nd Chairman of the Provisional State Council of Israel, from 16 May, 1948 to 17 February, 1949.
His father, Oizer (Fialkov) Weizmann, was a timber merchant, who was born in Pinsk, Pinsk District, Brest Region, Belarus. His mother, Rachel Leah (Chemerinsky), joined in migration to Mandatory Palestine (now Israel). President Weizmann was married to physician Vera Rebecca Chatzman, with whom he had two sons.
Among his siblings were physician Maria Weizmann, chemist Anna Weizmann, and doctor Minna Weizmann. President Weizmann’s nephew was military officer Ezer Weizman, who was also President of Israel, from 13 May, 1993 to 13 July, 2000.
President Weizmann’s paternal grandfather was named Haim Pialkov Weizman (the son of Falk Fialkov and Malka). Haim was born in Serniki, Poland, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland.
President Weizmann’s paternal grandmother was Gittel Rivka Hashia Miletski/Chereminsky (the daughter of Feivel Natan Miletski/Chemerinsky and Rahel/Rehle Weingarten). Feivel was the son of Itsko Yitzhak Chemerinsky and Sheina Hayah. Rahel/Rehle was the daughter of Yechiel Michal Weingarten and Hana.
President Weizmann’s maternal grandfather was named Yechiel Michel Chemerinsky (the son of Moshe Avigdor Chemerinsky and Hayah). Moshe was the son of David Yehoshua “Shaya” Chemerinsky.
President Weizmann’s maternal grandmother was named Fruma Chemerinsky (the daughter of Moshe Yitzhak Chemerinsky and Miriam).
