Cecil Hart was a head coach of the Montréal Canadiens ice hockey team. He has an award for best regular season NHL player named after him, the Hart Memorial Trophy.
Cecil was the son of Sarah Matilda (David) and David Alexander Hart. He was a great-great-grandson of Aaron Hart, who is generally considered to have been Canada’s first Jewish settler, being born in London, England in 1724, and arriving in Trois-Rivières, Québec, in 1761. Aaron was a prominent fur trader. He was the son of Yehezkel Hirsh Hart, who was born in Wrocław, Poland, and of Rebecca Judah, who was born in Bavaria, Germany.
Cecil’s paternal grandfather was Alexander Thomas Hart (the son of Moses Hart and Sarah Judah). Alexander was born in Trois-Rivières, Québec. Moses was the son of Aaron Philip Hart and Dorothea Catherine Judah, who was born in Portsmouth. Sarah was the daughter of Uriah Judah.
