Burna Boy is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, rapper, and dancer. He is one of the most successful African artists, and desribes his music style as “Afro-fusion.”

His father, Samuel Ogulu, is from Mbiama, Rivers State. He has stated that his father is Ijaw. His mother, Bose, also known as “Mama Burna,” is a translator, academic, and businessperson, who is now his manager. His sister, Nissi Ogulu, is also a singer.

Burna Boy’s maternal grandfather is broadcaster and music critic Benson Idonije. Benson was born in Otuo, Owan East, Edo State, and was the first manager of legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti.

Burna Boy often uses the Yoruba language in his music, but it is not clear if his ancestry is fully Yoruba.

    His father being from Rivers State makes me think that he’s definitely also “other.” That’s a diverse state, but with not many Yoruba speakers, which is honestly an understatement.
