Ari Ólafsson is an Icelandic singer. He represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.

His father, Ólafur Gunnar Guðlaugsson, is a graphic designer. His mother, Herdís Finnbogadóttir, is a psychologist.

Ari’s first cousins, twice removed, are opera singer Diddú and singer and songwriter Paul Oscar.

Ari’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced to his eighth great-grandfather, Halldór Bjarnason (c. 1640 – 1703).

Ari’s paternal grandfather was Guðlaugur Bergmann (the son of Daníel Magnús Bergmann Ásgeirsson and Guðríður Guðlaugsdóttir). Guðlaugur was born in Hafnarfjörður. Daniel was the son of Ásgeir Theodor Daníelsson and Jónína Neríður Magnúsdóttir Bergmann. Guðríður was the daughter of Guðlaug Þórðarson and Guðríður Eyjólfsdóttir.

Ari’s paternal grandmother is Anna Vilhjálmsdóttir Heiðdal (the daughter of Vilhjálmur Sigurðsson Heiðdal and María Gyða Hjálmtýsdóttir). Vilhjálmur was the son of Sigurður Þorláksson Heiðdal and Jóhanna Sigríður Jörgensdóttir. María was the daughter of Hjálmtýr Sigurðsson and Lucinde Fransiska Vilhelmine Hansen, who was of Danish descent.

Ari’s maternal grandfather was Finnbogi Gíslason (the son of Gísli R. Magnússon and Herdís Finnbogadóttir). Finnbogi was born in Akureyri. Gísli was the son of Magnús Mikaelsson and Rósa Gísladóttir. Herdís was the daughter of Finnbogi Jakobsson and Sígríður Olafsdóttir.

Ari’s maternal grandmother is Solveig Sigurðardóttir (the daughter of Unnar Sigurður Oddsson Björnsson and Kristín Bjarnadóttir). Ari’s great-grandfather Sigurður was the son of Oddur Björnsson and Ingibjörg Benjamínsdóttir. Kristín was the daughter of Bjarni Jónsson and Solveig Einarsdóttir.

Ari’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced to his seventh great-grandmother, Elín Grímsdóttir (c. 1714 – 18 March 1797).
