Ragnar Þórhallsson is an Icelandic musician. He is the lead vocalist and guitarist of indie folk band Of Monsters and Men. Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Brynjar Leifsson are also members of the band.
He is the son of Sigríður Thorsteinsson and Þórhallur Andrésson. His father’s last name is patronymic while his mother’s last name is a family name.
Ragnar’s paternal grandfather was Andrés Reynir Kristjánsson (the son of Christian August Otto Kornerup-Hansen and Guðrún Andrésdóttir). Andrés was born in Reykjavík. Christian was born in Roskilde, Denmark, to Carl Vilhelm August Hansen and Inger Marie Kornerup. Guðrún was the daughter of Andrés Andrésson and Kristín Pálsdóttir.
Ragnar’s paternal grandmother was Dóra Gígja Þórhallsdóttir (the daughter of Þórhallur Þorgilsson and Bergþóra Einarsdóttir). Ragnar’s great-grandfather Þórhallur was the son of Þórgils Friðriksson and Halldóra Ingibjörg Sigmundsdóttir. Bergþóra was the daughter ofEinar Guðjón Einarsson and Bergþóra Einarsdóttir.
Ragnar’s maternal grandfather was Ragnar Thorsteinsson (the son of Geir Thorsteinsson and Sigríður Hafstein). Ragnar was born in Reykjavík. Geir was the son of Þorsteinn Thorsteinsson and Kristjana Zoëga. Kristjana was of Danish, German, and Norwegian descent, aside from her Icelandic ancestry. Ragnar’s great-grandmother Sigríður was the daughter of Hannes Þórður Hafstein and Ragnheiður Stefánsdóttir.
Ragnar’s maternal grandmother was Elísabet Maack (the daughter of Pétur Andreas Maack and Hallfríður Hallgrímsdóttir). Elísabet was born in Reykjavík. Pétur was the son of Pétur Andreas Maack and Vigdís Einarsdóttir. Hallfríður was the daughter of Hallgrímur Benediktsson and Elísabet Jónsdóttir.
