Andrew Symonds was an Australian international cricketer. He played all three formats as a batting all-rounder, and was with Queensland, Gloucestershire, Kent, Lancashire, Deccan Chargers, Surrey, and Mumbai Indians, and the Australia national team. He was nicknamed Roy and Symo.
His birth parents were Danish/Swedish and African-Caribbean, respectively. He was born in England, and was adopted by Ken and Barbara Symonds, who are English. The family moved to Australia when he was three years old, living in Queensland, particularly Charters Towers, in the northern area and later the Gold Coast. His sister, Louise Symonds, was a contestant on the Australian Gladiators series.
According to an article on SMH.com.au, Andrew had chosen not to explore his Caribbean background, as he was fiercely proud of being Australian. However, whenever he traveled to the West Indies, the locals often mistook him for a Rastafarian. He stated that he had an affinity with the West Indies.
thanks man, finding out people’s ethnic background is very addictive. Once you start you can’t stop.
BTW you got a good site there too.
