Birth Name: Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez

Place of Birth: Manhattan, New York City, New York, U.S.

Date of Birth: July 27, 1975

Ethnicity: Dominican Republic

Alex Rodriguez is an American professional baseball player. A shortstop and third baseman, he played for the Seattle Mariners, the Texas Rangers, and the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is also known as A-Rod.

His parents, Lourdes and Victor Rodriguez, are Dominican. He was born in the United States, but spent some time in the Dominican Republic in his youth. He is able to speak Spanish as well as English. The majority of Dominicans, about 73 percent, are multiracial, while the remainder are of majority African or European descent. Rodriguez appears to be of mixed heritage, which would mean he possibly has African, European, and Native Taíno heritage.

In a 2005 article on ESPNdeportes.com, Alex stated, “I am going to play for the Dominican Republic, and I am going to make the Dominicans feel proud,” in the lead up to the first World Baseball Classic.

Alex has two children with his former wife Cynthia Scurtis.

Alex’s paternal grandfather was named Andres Rodriguez Varona (the son of Mariano Rodriguez Objio).

Alex’s paternal grandmother was named Zenovia Marcano Rodriguez (the daughter of Aurelia Castillo de Marcano).

    He is not just black. He is clearly multi-racial. I might even say he is more european than african and taino. He doesn’t pass as fully white, fully black or fully taino. He looks like what he is, multi-racial.

    The problem and issue with the Dominican Republic is their definition of “multi-racial” this can apply to ANY group of African descendants outside of Africa. We are ALL as black people “multiracial”. And how is multiracial really applied?? If someone is 85% African 5% Indian and 10% European do you consider that person “multiracial”? Most people would see a black person at these percentages. So thats why the Dominican Republic is basically a BLACK island. My half white and half black nephew and cousin look ALOT more mixed than Alex Rodriguez and look alot more European but they would be considered black as they speak English . Alex Rodriguez just gets a pass as some uneducated people actually believe “latino” is a real race.

      The comparison isn’t a good one. Latin America is more mixed than Anglo-Saxon America because first of all, the English people were very hostile to mixing with the Natives and Africans while the Spaniards, Portuguese and even the French weren’t. Interracial marriage wasn’t banned unlike in the US.

      Also, Latin American countries such as the DR, experienced recent waves of immigration from Europe.

      The average black American have more African dna than the average Dominican, that’s a fact. Rodriguez is probably 60% Euro and 45% African and 5% Taino.

      Your nephew and cousin look more Euro because they probably are. Since the average black American is 20% to 15% Euro, your relatives are more European, that’s just simple logic.

        @Samiiraa

        There’s a lot you don’t know about the U.S history

        Quote(Latin America is more mixed than Anglo-Saxon America because first of all, the English people were very hostile to mixing with the Natives and Africans while the Spaniards, Portuguese and even the French weren’t. Interracial marriage wasn’t banned unlike in the US. )

        1. First, while I do agree that Latin America is more mixed than the U.S., the other part of your comment is nonsense.
        Where do you think the majority of European bloodlines in the African American people come from? I can’t recall a Euro group that came to the U.S that didn’t mess with the Black people in the states. Irish British, German, Scottish. Russian, Italian. Dutch etc, all mess around with the black people here.

        2. The English were not very hostile to mixing with the Natives and Africans, They were more than happy to do the horizontal mambo. Yes they made up laws to try and stop the mixing, but that was because they didn’t like the fact that their (white women ), were mixing with the black men. However even that change, and for a good time encouraged the mixing to get more slaves(since the child followed the mother into slavery), Then they changed their minds again White men in states like Massachusetts signed petitions stating that the government had no right to tell them who they could be with.
        Quote:
        Politicians like Garrison argued that the 1786 law banning these mixed marriages was “an invasion of one of the inalienable rights of man, namely, ‘the pursuit of happiness.'” To take away people’s choice of marriage partner was “utterly absurd and preposterous

        Most of if not all White Politicians and white men period, of those days had black mistresses ,slaves or whatever. When they saw there was no stopping it, they asked for it to be conducted discreetly. However like I said, when it came to (Black men and White women) , that was the problem

        You have a lot of famous white men with their black mistresses
        Richard Mentor Johnson and Mary Chinn. whom he had no intention about being discreet.John Hemphill and his slave Sabina, are just a couple of examples

        Places like Montana and Wyoming in the 1880’s were almost completely mixed race families. A lot of the black/white families moved there

        Being multiracial or mixed race pertains to 4 things;

        A)genetics

        B)recent family ancestry (nuclear and extended family)

        C)social and cultural upbringing.

        D)social contruct

        You need at least 2-4 of these things to be considered mixed race.

    • Jacklyn 224 says:

      Dude what are you going on about?being multiracial pertains to genetics,recent family ancestry(nuclear and extended family)25%-75% anything below is remote or distant and irrelevant,social and cultural upbringing.You need all 3 to be considered mixed or multiracial.No one gives a crap about distant family ancestry nor historical mixing such as slavery or moorish invasions.

    • Jacklyn 224 says:

      Let’s navigate Dominicans and Sicilians.

      Dominicans;

      Genetics:majority black

      Recent family ancestry:nil(zero mono racial family members of another race)

      Social/cultural upbringing:Latin influenced

      Social contract

    • Jacklyn 224 says:

      Dominicans;

      Genetics:predominantly African with European and native ancestry

      Recent family members of another race:nil

      Social/cultural upbringing: Latin influenced

      Social construct:

      A)self identify:Dominicans self identify as Hispanic

      B)passing:Dominicans mostly pass as black.

      C)presenting:Dominicans mostly present themselves as Hispanic

      In common we have black and Hispanic hence why they categorised as black Hispanic.

      • mayra.santana says:

        wrong. Dominicans are predominantly of European ancestry. I dont know if youve ever watched a dominican dna test but theyre usually 30-35% black. Also 20% of Dominicans are fully white

    • Jacklyn 224 says:

      Alex;

      Genetics:mixed(exact percentages unknown)

      Recent family members of another race:nil

      Social/cultural upbringing: Latin influenced

      Social construct:

      A)self identify:he identifies as Hispanic

      B)passing:he doesn’t pass as black,white nor Asian despite what you say midori,the vast majority of american see as appearance as ambiguously mixed.

      C)presenting:he has always presented himself as just Hispanic and has a Hispanic last name.

      He has mixed race and Hispanic in common and that’s how his categorized and viewed by the vast majority of Americans.

    • mayra.santana says:

      The average Dominican is 30% African. So your statement is false, most dominicans are not 85% African. The black dominicans you see in Punta Cana are in fact Haitians. Im puerto rican and would ask them if they were Haitian and they would tell me yes.

  3. midori29 says:

    @YET7, I meant typo “google” search Dominicans

  4. madman says:

    Dominican Republic instead of Dominican?

  5. midori29 says:

    Dominicans are very black. They look like African Americans to me. Most do not look as mixed as Alex Rodriguez. Most Dominicans are the Africans brought to the islands mixed with Spain. But they look majority African in dna. I traveled all over the Dominican Republic, they are not that mixed.
