John Stockwell is an American actor, director, producer, writer, and model. He is known for his roles in Christine, City Limits, My Science Project, Radioactive Dreams, Dangerously Close, Losin’ It, Eddie and the Cruisers, and North and South, and for directing the films Crazy/Beautiful, Blue Crush, Into the Blue, and Turistas.

His sister is historian Evelyn Welch (born Samuels). His niece, her daughter, is English singer, songwriter, and musician Florence Welch. John is married to chef and caterer Helene Henderson, with whom he has three children.

John’s paternal grandfather was John Stockwell Samuels, Jr. (the son of John Stockwell Samuels, Sr. and Emma Weedon). John’s grandfather John was born in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. John’s great-grandfather John was the son of John Samuels and Adeline Fleming “Addie” Stockwell. Emma was the daughter of Milton/Mitt A. Weedon and Sallie Cochran.

John’s paternal grandmother was Helen Yvonne Poole (the daughter of Thomas Andrew Poole and Emma Caroline Hayes). Helen was born in Galveston, Texas. Thomas was the son of F. T. Thomas Poole, who was born in London, England, and of Mary Burns, who was born in Liverpool, England, both of them to Irish parents. John’s great-grandmother Emma was the daughter of John Buchanan Hayes and Sarah Ann Benedick.

John’s maternal grandfather was John Samuel Richards (the son of Herman Grejcer, later Richards, and Effie C. Ainlay). John’s grandfather John was born in Farnam, Nebraska. Herman was a Belarusian Jewish emigrant, from Rechki, Vileyka, the son of Samuel Grejcer and Hena. Effie was of English and Irish descent, the daughter of John Ainlay and Eliza Jane Walker, who were from Ontario, Canada.

John’s maternal grandmother was Leontine Marie Subatch (the daughter of Anthony John Subatch, born Antanas Jonas Subačius, and of Leontine Cecelia Maney). John’s grandmother Leontine was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Anthony was Lithuanian, from Ricieliai, Alytus, the son of Jokūbas Subačius and Agota Raugalaitė. John’s great-grandmother Leontine was born in Massachusetts, to Irish parents, John Patrick Maney, from County Tipperary, and Ellen Reilly.
