Piet de Jong was a Dutch politician. He served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands, from 5 April, 1967 to 6 July, 1971, as well as Minister of Defence, from 24 July, 1963 to 5 April, 1967, and Parliamentary leader in the Senate, from 11 May, 1971 to 17 September, 1974, among other duties.

His father, Joännes Jans de Jong, was from Midlum, Harlingen, Friesland. His mother, Gijsberta Adriana Schouten, was a native of Trigt, Buurmalsen, Gelderland. He was married to Anna Geertruida Jacoba Henriëtte “Anneke” Bartels, until her death, with whom he had three children. Anneke was a WWII resistance fighter.

Piet’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his ninth great-grandfather, Pals (or Paulus in Latin).

Piet’s paternal grandfather was Jan Pieters de Jong (the son of Pieter Hommes de Jong and Jantje Jans Dijkstra). Jan was born in Franekeradeel, Friesland, Netherlands. Pieter was the son of Homme Eelkes de Jong and Akke Ruurds Huitema. Jantje was the daughter of Jan Sytses Dijkstra and Rinske Lieuwes van der Pal.

Piet’s paternal grandmother was Agatha Joännes Huininck (the daughter of Johannes Hendrik Huininck and Ibeltje Minnes Huninck). Johannes was the son of Jeseijas Hunink Veringa and Anna Maria Huberts Voets. Ibeltje was the daughter of Minne Douwes Minnema and Akke Gerbens Andela.

Piet’s maternal grandfather was Dirk Schouten (the son of Ernestus Schouten and Maria Spaan). Dirk was born in Schalkwijk, Houten, Utrecht, Netherlands. Ernestus was the son of Dirk Schouten and Maria Pauw. Piet’s great-grandmother Maria was the daughter of Gerrit Spaan and Johanna van Kleef.

Piet’s maternal grandmother was Alida van Schaik (the daughter of Gijsbertus van Schaik and Hendrika van Doorn). Alida was born in Werkhoven, Bunnik, Utrecht, Netherlands. Gijsbertus was the son of Adrianus “Arie” van Schaik and Alida van Schaik. Arie and Alida were born with the same surname. Hendrika was the daughter of Adrianus van Doorn and Hendrika van den Berg.

Piet’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his third great-grandmother, Hendrikje Gerritsen.
