Lydia Cacho is a Mexican journalist, feminist, and human rights activist.

Her father, Óscar Humberto Cacho Robles, is a Mexican engineer. Her mother, Paula Maria Monteiro Ribeiro, was a French emigrant, from Lyon, and was of Portuguese and some Sephardi Jewish descent.

Lydia’s paternal grandfather was Ernesto Cacho y Álvarez (also known as José Juan Ernesto Cacho y Álvarez, the son of José Ernesto Cacho Oropeza and María Elvira Álvarez Arreola). Lydia’s great-grandfather Ernesto was the son of Samuel Teófilo Inocencio Cacho Apesechea and Felicitas Oropeza Porras. Lydia’s great-grandmother María was the daughter of Melecio Ramón de Jesús Álvarez Guerrero and María Dolores Martina Arreola Pescador.

Lydia’s paternal grandmother was María del Carmen Robles y Rosete (the daughter of Javier Robles Moscoso and María del Carmen Lorenza Justiniana Rosete del Cotero). Javier was the son of Manuel María Ramón Arcadio Robles Tamborrel and María Emiliana Moscoso Tagle. Lydia’s great-grandmother Carmen was the daughter of Alberto María Pascual Rosete Oropeza and Paulina del Cotero Quijano.

Lydia’s maternal grandparents were José Maria Alves Ribeiro (the son of ? Ribeiro and ? Alves) and Maria Rosa Ferreira Monteiro (the daughter of ? Monteiro and ? Ferreira).
