Dave Pirner is an American songwriter, singer, and producer. He is the lead vocalist and frontman for alternative rock band Soul Asylum.

He has a son with his former wife.

Dave’s paternal grandfather was Lloyd Frederick Pirner (the son of Johann “John” Pirner and Laura Kunkel). Lloyd was born in Wisconsin. Johann was the son of German parents, Friedrick Pirner and Margarett Levera. Laura was also the daughter of German parents, the daughter of Johann Kunkel and Maria Heinrich.

Dave’s paternal grandmother was Ella Gusta Martha Fuerst (the daughter of Charles Ludwig “Carl/Charlie” Fuerst and Anna Maria Elizabeth “Annie” Müller). Ella was born in Wisconsin. Charles was the son of Fredrick Fuerst and Ernstine Morack. Anna was the daughter of John Muller and Johanna B.

Dave’s maternal grandfather was Frederic/Frederick McElgunn “Fred” Burrall (the son of Frederic Edward “Fred” Burrall and Krystine/Khristine Genevieve McElgunn). Dave’s grandfather Frederic was born in Wisconsin. Dave’s great-grandfather Frederic was of English descent. Krystine was the son of Charles Patrick McElgunn, who was born in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, and of Jane McDonald, who was born Canada, of Scottish descent.
