Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson is an Icelandic politician. He was Prime Minister of Iceland, from 23 May, 2013 to 7 April, 2016. He has also been Leader of the Centre Party, since 24 September, 2017, as well as Leader of the Progressive Party, from 18 January, 2009 to 2 October, 2016, and Minister of Justice, from 26 August, 2014 to 4 December, 2014.

He is the son of Gunnlaugur Magnús Sigmundsson and Sigríður Guðbjörg Sigurbjörnsdóttir. He is married to Anna Sigurlaug Pálsdóttir, and has one child.

Sigmundur’s paternal grandmother was Sigmundur Jónsson (the son of Jón Hjaltalín Brandsson and Sesselja Stefánsdóttir). Jón was the son of Brandur Sigmundsson and Anna Daníelsdóttir. Sesselja was the daughter of Stefán Jónsson and Guðrún Andrésdóttir.

Sigmundur’s paternal grandmother was Nanna Gunnlaugsdóttir (the daughter of Gunnlaugur Magnússon and Marta Guðrún Magnúsdóttir). Sigmundur’s great-grandfather Gunnlaugur was the son of Magnús Magnússon and Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir. Marta was the daughter of Magnús Einarsson and Sesselja Filippusdóttir.

Sigmundur’s maternal grandfather was Sigurbjörn Þórðarson (the son of Þórður Þórðarson and Sigríður Grímsdóttir). Þórður was the son of Þórðar Jónsson and Herdís Guðmundsdóttir. Sigmundur’s great-grandmother Sigríður was the daughter of Grímur Guðmundsson and Helga Guðmundsdóttir.

Sigmundur’s maternal grandmother was Heiðveig Árný Hálfdánardóttir (the daughter of Hálfdán Ágúst Bjarnason and Guðbjörg Þóroddsdóttir). Hálfdán was the son of Bjarni Bjarnason and Guðbjörg Kristín Guðmundsdóttir. Sigmundur’s great-grandmother Guðbjörg was the daughter of Þóroddur Davíðsson and María Ólöf Bjarnadóttir. She was later put into the foster care of Jón Hólmsteinn Guðmundsson and Ólína Sigríður Bjarnadóttir.
