Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir is an Icelandic politician. She served as Prime Minister of Iceland, from 1 February, 2009 to 23 May, 2013. She is Iceland’s first female Prime Minister and the world’s first openly lesbian head of government. She was also Minister of Social Affairs and Social Security, from 8 July, 1987 to 24 June, 1994, and again, from 24 May, 2007 to 1 February, 2009.

Jóhanna is the daughter of Karítas Guðmundsdóttir and Sigurður Egill Ingimundarson. She is married to novelist, playwright, and journalist Jónína Leósdóttir. She has two children with her former husband Þorvaldur Steinar Jóhannesson.

Jóhanna’s paternal grandfather was Ingimundur Einarsson (the son of Einar Jónsson and Vilborg Jónsdóttir). Einar was the son of Jón Björnsson and Solveig Þorvarðsdóttir. Vilborg was the daughter of Jón Jónsson and Ingibjörg Arngrímsdóttir.

Jóhanna’s paternal grandmother was Jóhanna Guðlaug Egilsdóttir (the daughter of Egill Guðmundsson and Guðlaug Stefánsdóttir). Egill was the son of Guðmundur Eiríksson and Sigríður Egilsdóttir. Guðlaug was the daughter of Stefán Jónsson and Guðlaug Pálsdóttir.

Jóhanna’s maternal grandfather was Guðmundur Guðjónsson (the son of Guðjón Björnsson and Steinunn Margret Þorsteinsdóttir). Guðjón was the son of Björn Björnsson and Guðrún Jónsdóttir. Steinunn was the daughter of Þorstein Þorsteinsson and Guðlaugur Stefánsdóttir.

Jóhanna’s maternal grandmother was Anna María Gísladóttir (the daughter of Gisli; she was adopted by Gunnar Hafliðason and Karítas Tómasdóttir).
