Syl Apps was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was a center for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL).

He was the son of Mary Swan and Ernest Overy Apps.

Syl’s paternal grandfather was Charles Overy Apps (the son of William Apps and Harriet Overy). Charles’ parents were born in Sussex, England. William was the son of Edmund Apps and Henrietta Philcox. Harriet was the daughter of Charles Overy and Mary Bourner.

Syl’s paternal grandmother was Charles Gurney (the daughter of Charles James Gurney and Mary Anne Hill). Syl’s grandfather Charles’ parents were English. Syl’s great-grandfather Charles was born in Buckinghamshire, the son of Charles James Gurney and Janes Knibbs. Mary was the daughter of Thomas Hill and Martha Sear.

Syl’s maternal grandfather was Joseph Wrigley (the son of Sylvanus Fearns Wrigley and Isabella Stoddard). Sylvanus was born in Lancashire, England, the son of Jospeh Wrigley and Ann Fearns.

Syl’s maternal grandmother was Jane Grieve Dryden (the daughter of James S. Dryden and Mary Irvan Swan). Jane’s parents were Scottish. James was the son of Andrew Dryden and Janet Carins. Mary was born in Roxburgshire, the daughter of Jared Swan and Jane Grieve.
