Steve Albini was an American musician, record producer, audio engineer, music journalist, and poker player. He was considered a major figure of the alternative rock scene. Beginning with punk music, he was later the frontman of post-hardcore and noise rock bands Big Black, Rapeman, and Shellac. He founded and owned Chicago recording studio complex Electrical Audio, where he was the principal engineer. He was notably critical of the music industry’s business side. His songs include “Kerosene.”
Steve was the son of Gina and Frank Albini. His father was a wildlife researcher, and his family lived for a time in Missoula, Montana. Steve was married to film director Heather Whinna, until his death.
